PAGASA Warns Flashfloods in Southern Cebu
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has advised the towns of Naga, Minglanilla, Talisay City and portions of Cebu City to “take precautionary measures” in the next hours as heavy rains and gusty winds may bring possible flashfloods.
The advice, which came in Pagasa’s Advisory No. 12 issued at 2:54 pm Tuesday, has warned the said areas of thunderstorms and lighting, apart from heavy rains, which could result to flashfloods or landslide.
The weather bureau has also warned the public to “keep monitoring for updates.”
It can be recalled that there are mountain barangays of the cities of Naga, Talisay, Cebu and Minglanilla which are prone to landslides. In an interview, Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong said barangay captains already know the protocol, that when heavy rains are expected to come, they must immediately advise their constituents, especially those living in the landslide-prone areas to seek for safer grounds.
