PAGASA Tracks New LPA Outside PAR

PAGASA on Thursday is tracking another potential cyclone outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) following the dissolution on Wednesday of tropical cyclone Agaton, whose heavy rains and flooding caused more than 40 deaths.

PAGASA’s Samuel Duran however said their forecast models for now, showed that the LPA is not likely to enter the PAR. Duran reportedly said that as of now, it is still far away and is not likely to enter the PAR.

Weather forecasters said if the LPA enters the PAR and becomes a cyclone, it will be locally codenamed Basyang.

Reports quoted weather authorities saying that while there may still be rain over parts of the country (Visayas and Mindanao) due to the northeast monsoon, the weather is expected to gradually improve.

Meanwhile, as of 5 am Thursday, PAGASA’s bulletin said the northeast monsoon is affecting Luzon and Visayas.

It said “Eastern Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains,”
adding that moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the northeast to north over Mindanao.

It added the coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.
