(PNA) — Expect rains in the Visayas and Mindanao as an incoming Low Pressure Area (LPA) might head towards Eastern Visayas and Mindanao or recurve away from the area on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

“It is projected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Jan 15, with two forecast tracks towards the regions of Eastern Visayas or Mindanao or it may recurve away from Eastern Visayas or Mindanao,” PAGASA Weather Forecaster Shaira Nonot told PNA.

She added the LPA might strengthen into an Tropical Depression Thursday, as it enters the PAR.

According to PAGASA’s 5:00 a.m. advisory, the trough of the LPA is forecast to affect the Visayas and Mindanao, while Eastern and Central Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains with possible occurrence of thunderstorms.

Moreover, the rest of Visayas are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Further, Cagayan Valley and the Cordilleras are projected to have cloudy skies with light rains, still due to the LPA.

Also, the state-run weather bureau said Luzon will experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated light rains. It noted that the Northeast Monsoon still affects the region.

Meanwhile, PAGASA warns against strong winds in the seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Visayas, which advises fishermen and those with small boats to refrain from heading out to sea.

On the other hand, PAGASA said cold temperatures are still being experienced with Metro Manila at 19.2 degrees Celsius and Baguio at 12.2 degrees Celsius.

Nonot said that the temperatures may further drop due to the expected peak season of the Northeast Monsoon during the second week of Jan. to second week of Feb. (PNA) FPV/JLD/JSD
