PAGASA Issues ‘Heavy Rainfall’ Warning Over Metro Manila, Nearby Provinces
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a heavy rainfall warning over Metro Manila and nearby provinces at 12:33 p.m. Wednesday due to heavy rains caused by exiting typhoon “Nona.”
At the same time, PAGASA issued an Orange Rainfall warning affecting Nueva Ecija province in Central Luzon.
The Orange Rainfall advisory, the second in PAGASA’s three-stage rainfall warning system, is raised in areas where rainfall is between 15 millimeters and 30 mm within one hour. Flooding is a definite threat in communities under the Orange alert.
The Yellow Rainfall warning raised over Metro Manila is also affecting the provinces of Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Zambales, Tarlac, Cavite, Batangas and Quezon (General Nakar).
Under the heavy rainfall warning system, a Yellow Rainfall advisory is raised when the expected rainfall amount is between 7.5 mm and 15 mm within one hour and likely to continue.
Communities given this advisory are advised to be aware of the weather condition and warned that flooding may be possible in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains affecting Laguna, Rizal and the rest of Quezon province may persist for two to three hours, PAGASA said.
The agency said these information are based on tropical cyclone track, current radar trends and all available meteorological data.
The public and the disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to monitor the weather condition and watch for the next advisory to be issued at 4 p.m. today. (PNA) SCS/CLTC
