Over P7M in Infra Projects, Cash Aid: Capitol Mulls Hike of Brgy Workers’ Cash Incentives

Barangay workers are expected to get an increase in their cash incentives from the Cebu Provincial Government starting this year.

This, after Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale announced the Capitol’s plan on raising the barangay workers’ incentives during the distribution of cash gifts in the northern towns of Sogod and Catmon on Thursday, Jan. 10.

A total of 827 barangay workers in Sogod and Catmon received their cash incentives from the Provincial Government, which amounted to P1.487 million.

Apart from the distribution of cash incentives, Magpale and Gov. Hilario P. Davide III also inaugurated two newly-constructed school buildings with two classrooms each in Barangay Tabunok in Sogod and in Barangay Basak, Catmon.

Each school building costs P1.966 million.

The Capitol top officials, together with the Provincial Agriculture Office, also distributed more than P2 million worth of fishing materials and equipment to the two towns.

Barangay health workers (BHW), barangay animal health aide (BAHA), nutrition scholars (BNS), barangay tanods, day care workers (DCW), and lupong tagapamayapa received their cash incentives distributed by Davide and Magpale. All BHW, BNS and DCW received P2,400 each, while tanods and lupons each got P1,500.

Davide told the barangay workers that the cash incentives they received were for the year 2018. It is the Capitol’s way of recognizing them for their hard work and sacrifices.

“Hinaot inyong pagsalig kanamo anaa gihapon magpabiling lig-on ug hugot,” said Davide.

Magpale said that the Province is now assessing how much would the increase be for the barangay workers.

“Amo kanang tun-an kung pila but, definitely, we will be increasing your allowances. Dako kaayo among utang kabubut-on ninyo. Ang amo lang saad definitely there will be an increase,” she said.

Sogod Mayor Lissa Marie Durano-Streegan, Vice Mayor Richard Streegan and the 18 barangay captains were present during the distribution ceremony held at the municipal gym.

In Catmon, Mayor Dan Jusay, Vice Mayor Irish Baylon-Gestopa, some municipal councilors and barangay officials were also present at the Barangay San Jose gym.

Mayor Streegan and Jusay were thankful to the Capitol officials for personally distributing the cash incentives to the barangay workers.

For the school building, principal Roberta Fornolles of Tabunok Elementary School in Sogod also thanked the Capitol for the donation that will be occupied by the kinder pupils.

During the turnover ceremony, Davide announced that the Capitol will provide 100 chairs and 50 sacks of cement for the school.

“We realize usa sa problema sa skwelahan kining kakulang sa classroom kay daghan na ang nga batang nang eskwela ug nagkagamay ang facilities. Hinaot magamit gyud kini sa mga kabataan,” he said.

Sogod Schools District Supervisor Nestor Molde, Tabunok Barangay Captain Nida Auman, and some Sogod councilors graced the event.

Also, the Provincial Agriculture Office under the leadership of Roldan Saragena distributed agriculture equipment and fishing materials to the two towns.

Gillnets, assorted fishing materials, marine sanctuary materials, and tilapia feeds worth P125,000 were given to four farmers and fishermen associations in Catmon, while the same materials were also given to the five associations in Sogod worth P115,000.

As to the machineries and equipment, the groups from Catmon received two flexible water tanks, a cultivator tiller and an outdoor storage.

For the facilities, they got one unit of greenhouse, multi-purpose drying pavement, and small water impounding project.

All of these equipment and agriculture projects were estimated to be worth P1.487 million.

In Sogod, PAO distributed two mechanical corn sheller, a collapsible dryer case and outdoor storage with a total worth of P313,500.

Other officials and guests during the event were Provincial Board Members Miguel Antonio Magpale, Jude Thaddeus Sybico, and Earl Tidy Oyas. Sybico’s sister, Binky, was also there. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
