Over 6T Job Vacancies Open for Applicants at Happy Jobs Fair on May 28
(PIA) — More than 70 local and overseas companies will offer more than 6,000 job vacancies during the Happy Jobs Fair on May 28 at SM City Cebu Trade Hall.
In a press conference Thursday, Wesley Chiongbian, president of online job portal Mynimo.com, said that 77 companies have confirmed to participate, bringing with them 7,536 job vacancies.
Mynimo.com stages the Happy Jobs Fair, which is now on its third year.
Compared to last year’s jobs fair, there is an 18 percent jump in the number of work vacancies offered in this year’s jobs fair.
Companies participating this year are in retail, information technology, real estate, healthcare, manufacturing, and business process outsourcing.
Job vacancies with a high growth in demand this year compared to last year but do not have many applicants include teachers for Cebu-based private learning institutions, business process outsourcing (BPO), human resource, technical support, and corporate sales.
The demand for teachers, particularly for English as Second Language (ESL) teachers, went up this year compared to last year.
“The demand for teachers doubled this year, but the number of people who want to work and become teachers decreased this year compared to last year,” said Chiongbian.
As of press time, 5,654 job applicants registered for the jobs fair online.
Evelia Durato, chief of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA-7) in the region, said the jobs fair is helps address unemployment in the country.
“This is easier for both employer and potential employees to be in one venue and do the selection process,” said Durato.
Aside from POEA, the jobs fair is also supported by the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP), an organization of human resource professionals from 200 member-companies committed to excellence in people management.
“PMAP is on its third year of supporting the Mynimo Happy Jobs Fair. We are happy that Mynimo is staging again this jobs fair,” said Nenita Therese Mantalaba, president of PMAP Cebu Chapter.
Asked for his advice for applicants who will participate in the jobs fair, Chiongbian said: “Bring at least five copies of your resume, dress appropriately, be confident, and be optimistic. And don’t bring your mother or your girlfriend with you as we have seen this happening more often lately at the jobs fair.”
The jobs fair will start at 9:00 a.m. but Chiongbian said they are opening the doors early.
“Before the mall opens, those who registered online can get in one hour ahead than the walk-in applicants,” he added. (rmn/PIA7-Cebu)
