Over 600 Street Vendors Now Allowed to Sell Again in Cebu City
After almost two years since the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) halted their operation, over 600 street vendors are now back in the streets to sell their goods to Cebuanos.
This comes after the Cebu City government passed an ordinance to allow street vendors to operate again in the city.
Garbo Asenso Sumbanan Alyansa (GASA) recommended the passing of the ordinance to answer the plea of street vendors who are having a hard time gaining income, especially during this pandemic.
The return of the street vendors started on July 2, however, they are only allowed to operate on an area that is 2.5 meters wide to also accommodate pedestrians walking along the sidewalk.
Meanwhile, The Chairman of the Committee on Market Councilor Renato Osmeña Jr. along with Prevention Restoration Order Beautification Enhancement (PROBE), Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), City Enforcement Sanitation and Enforcement Team (CESET), Market Operation Division, Department for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP), Cebu City Anti Mendicancy Board, and Cebu City United Vendors Association officials inspected the sidewalks in the city yesterday.
