Over 100 Modern Jeeps to Serve Cebuanos Soon

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB 7) has launched 117 modern jeepneys and 14 modern taxis last March 29, 2022.

This is the biggest launch of modern jeepneys since the start of the transportation modernization program in the country.

The modern jeepneys and taxis were awarded to the different transportation cooperatives in Cebu.

These modern jeepneys are said to ply different routes in Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Cebu Province.

About 1,030 modern jeepneys are currently operating in Region 7, according to LTFRB 7. Meanwhile, about 400 modern taxis are also operating in the region.

LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III said during the launching that by April 1 traditional jeepneys that are considered roadworthy will be given a provisional authority to continue to operate. However, traditional jeepneys that do not pass the inspection will no longer be allowed to operate. (ASC)
