Otaku Fest : Alternate Universe

The eight season of the UP Otaku Fest themed as Alternate Universe will happen this Saturday February 21, 2015 at the UP Cebu grounds 8:00am to 8:00pm.

The first UP Otaku Fest was founded in November 2007 by BAGSIK, then third year batch organization of UP Cebu to help raise funds for the organization. The idea was to hold a convention with as much variety and fan-driven entertainment , but is not limited to a certain genre and is open to all fandoms.

Like most passion projects, the event had a humble beginning, but it was the beginning of something BIG, a great wave that will introduce more cosplay and hobby convention events to Cebuanos and into the Cebuano culture. Through the years, it has showcased an array of attractions including exhibits, mini-cafes, DOTA competitions, photography contests, original character design competitions, a movie haus, singing and dance competitions, cosplay competitions, and many others.

The first Otaku Fest successfully gathered a crowd of around a thousand people at its peak from all walks of life to celebrate and exhibit the fandoms they cherish the most. The number of participants has grown steadily through the years as UP Otaku Fest has become one of the most heavily awaited and attended hobby conventions in Cebu. It is held every February and serves as Cebu’s opening salvo of all similar events annually.
