‘One More Chance’ for City Casuals

About 50 out of 300 casual workers of the Cebu City Government, whose employment contracts were not renewed by the Mayor as of last June 29, were given the chance to work again after each of them promised to work harder.

Lawyer Dominic Diño, head of the City Hall’s Human Resource Development Office (HRDO), said they will continue to monitor the behavior and performance of the close to 5,000 city employees because Mayor Rama does not want to see lazy personnel. Of the 300 casual workers whose employment contracts were not renewed, about 40 of them are traffic enforcers and parking aides who are alleged to be being involved in illegal activities.

Attorney Diño said Mayor Rama will not hesitate to remove any personnel even if they are his supporters once they are found to be corrupt and lazy and engages in intrigues that cause troubles among their peers.

Those who were allowed to work again with the city were given probation of two or three months contract while their performance will be monitored by their respective department heads.

Meanwhile, there were casuals, whose contracts were not renewed, who are seeking the help of other Cebu City officials, hoping they could be accepted at the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

Cebu City Hall used to have 3,298 casual workers, but Diño said he could not give the exact number of the existing casuals because they are still consolidating the records.
