Ode to the Gypsies
When they take on the seas for a solo trip,
They brace their souls for a storm aboard ship.
Gypsies wander everywhere yet to themselves
Seeking homes, finding love for their hearts’ shelves.
Where to go, what to bring, they ask themselves not.
Why need go – that’s the goal – untie the knot!
To the mounts, vales and hills these bravehearts dare go
Bringing nothing with them but faith, halo!
Cherubs, seraphs, demons, devils, they have met
All that’s nice, great, dim and dark, they just let
Block their ways, give them alms but not let them stop.
They rest and sleep to push themselves to top.
They dream and forget, but they never falter
In their quest for best that flows like water.
They halt and fail, but they will never give up
On their plans to make this sad world light up
Through the trails they blaze and the paths they open,
We reckon our own saws to sharpen.
They gypsy life is not for the faint of heart.
The coward, the sloth cannot play the part
Of charting course, gazing stars, conquering fears.
It would seem a waste when nobody hears
The gypsies’ shout of joy and toast for success.
No home, no love – humans, they are not less.
