OCD-7 Plans for 2020-2022 Disaster Risk Reduction
The Office of Civil Defense in Central Visayas (OCD)-7 planned and reviewed all potential strategies and services for the year 2020-2022 during their meeting on June 26, Wednesday, at the Azia Suites in Cebu City.
OCD-7 Regional Director Eugene Cabrera said that they are currently planning different programs to reduce casualties and damage brought by different kinds of disasters.
Cabrera said that previous plans from the 2017-2019 meeting were improvised by revising some programs and putting additional plans to maintain its stability.
Services and strategies that were already implemented will no longer be used on the latest plan.
Cabrera also explained that according to their tentative plan, all services must be available to all Filipinos and they put more prevention services to spend less on response services.
“National Policy dictates na we have to put more investment sa prevention para lesser yung expenses natin sa disaster response para we don’t have to spend so much money (National Policy dictates that we have to invest more on prevention to lessen our expenses),” Cabrera said.
The review meeting also stated that prevention is the most effective way to lessen casualties and damage.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) alot 4 evacuation centers throughout the region every year as part of the emergency response service. (MLC)
