Oblivion is a sci-fi thriller that focuses more on intense human emotion rather than hardcore action, mind-blowing special effects rather than explosions, and a gripping storyline rather than blood and guts. Surely, this movie will bring you to the edge of your seat. Please do not get me wrong, there is action, explosions and a mild amount of blood, but not nearly as much as most actions movies have. Although Oblivion may be a little bit slow for some of the action movie lovers, Oblivion is spine-tingling thriller much in the same way that the movie Inception was. Similar to Inception, Oblivion is a thinking person movie, taking you on a journey into the past and present in ways you never imagined.

I know what many of you might be saying, “I do not like Tom Cruise, so I have no desire to see this movie.” Honestly, please do away with all of your preconceptions about Tom Cruise and give this movie a chance. This is one of those movies where you forget it’s Tom Cruise and watch the movie because it is a great film, rather than who is in it.

Personally, I am not a huge science fiction movie fan, but in the world of storyline conceptualization, this movie took me to a world of movie making I have not seen before. From the opening scenes, my first thought was about the musical score alone. I told my wife, “If this movie’s music keeps up, I will love this movie based on the score alone,” then came the mind blowing special effects and aerial sequences that seemed to master everything the last three Star Wars movies failed to do. Finally, the storyline came that kept me thinking, wondering and imagining what the conclusion could be. No worries, I will not give you any hints as to what the plot really is but I also encourage you not to
read any reviews other than mine before watching this movie. Many of the reviews out there ruin important plot developments that you are not intended to know until the end of the movie.

This movie will most likely be nominated for movie awards next year in special effects and musical score, if not more.
