Obama: This is Not America’s Fight Alone
United States President Barack Obama said the participation of five Arab nations in airstrikes against ISIL in Syria conveys a clear message to the world that “this is not America’s fight alone”.
Obama on Tuesday promised to resume the fight, which he described as vital to the security of his country, the Middle East and the world.
The US president said it must now be clear to anyone who would plot against America and do Americans harm that we will not tolerate safe havens for terrorists who threaten his people.
Obama added that the joint raids against ISIL would take time, expressing commitment to build more international support for the effort.
The US was proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the UAE in conducting the attacks, Obama said. The US-led military coalition on Tuesday launched the raids against ISIL positions in northern and eastern Syria, that also targets al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria, known as the Nusra Front.
The front reportedly fought against ISIL, prompting Washington to consider it a terrorist group that threatens American interests.
Reports has qouted Syria’s foreign ministry saying that Washington told Damascus of the raids shortly before they began.
The US Defense Department spokesman,John Kirby, said on Tuesday that more than 160 ammunition were fired on ISIL targets in Syria, adding that the US had no indication so far that any civilians were killed, but that assessments were under way.
The US and five Arab countries began their raids at about 3am Syrian time on Tuesday.
