Number of People Affected by TS ‘Egay’ Breaches 48,000-mark –- NDRRMC

(PNA) — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday there was no casualty but almost 49,000 persons were affected during the onslaught of tropical storm “Egay.”

The NDRRMC reported that TS “Egay” affected 11,751 families or 48,307 people in Regions 1, 4-B and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Of these, 3,369 families or 13,527 people were served inside and outside evacuation centers.

NDRRMC said that four landslides occurred in Palawan, Benguet and Apayao while there were 16 flooding incidents in La Union, Palawan, Apayao, Mandaluyong City, Marikina City, and Pasay City.

A total of 14 road sections and two bridges are still closed to traffic due to landslides, rock slides, flashfloods and overflowing of rivers in the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Sur, Benguet, Apayao and Isabela.

The tropical storm also damaged a total of 91 houses in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Palawan and Benguet.

Damage to property was estimated at PhP6,067,945.90, both in infrastructure and agricultural crops in the CAR and Region 1 (Pangasinan, La Union and Ilocos Norte).

NDRRMC said the total cost of government assistance for the affected families in Regions 1, 4-B and CAR has reached PhP1,493,694.50 worth of relief goods and medicines from the combined resources of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units. (PNA) SCS/CLTC
