The print and broadcast journalists who are from Cagayan, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya were taught on the basics of reporting conflicts specifically those that arise from resource management by way of thorough lecture on the salient provisions of laws that are often violated.

These laws include the Mining Act, the CARPer law, the National Integrated Protected Areas System of the NIPAS Act of 1992; and the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act or IPRA Law.

Lawyer Jobert Pahilga of the National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL) explained important provisions of such laws while NUJP Director Ryan Rosauro lectured about Reporting on Resource Conflicts.

Meanwhile, NUJP national president Rowena Paraan challenged journalists from Cagayan to organize NUJP’s local chapter in the province.

The group’s national officials are expected to be back by the end of May for another seminar workshop and finalize the membership of Cagayano journalists to NUJP. (PNA)lam/rck/SCD/Sergio D. de Guzman(stringer-Cagayan)
