November Typhoons Slow Down PH Car Sales

Month-on-month sales of automobiles was cut short due to the number of typhoons that hit the country in November, according to The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI).

This comes as CAMPI and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) reported on Wednesday the decline of automotive vehicle sales from 24,023 units sold in October this year to 23,162 units in November of the same year, a decline of 7.4-percent. Passenger and commercial vehicle sales also went down by 13.33 percent and 4.1 percent, respectively.

Car sales for November of this year also recorded a decrease of 32.8-percent when compared to November 2019 when car sales saw 34,465 units sold.

“We remain optimistic in sustaining this level of sales performance for this month, which is critical for the industry to achieve its sales forecast,” CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez said, according to PNA.

Despite the shortcomings in the performance of automobile sales in the country, the automobile industry is still aiming for their target of 240,000 sales by the end of 2020. (GFB)
