Northern Samar to Host 2019 Regional Rescue Jamboree
The province of Northern Samar will host the 2019 Regional Rescue Jamboree at the University of Eastern Philippines in Catarman come July 21-27.
This was learned from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Assistant Regional Director Rey Gozon in a coordination meeting held at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) on Friday.
He said the activity aims to enhance disaster preparedness and response skills among participating teams from all over the region.
“Some 800 contingents are expected to participate in the following activities during the seven-day jamboree: pre-hospital care (ambulance license to operate requirements, en route care); map reading, mountain search rescue; water search rescue; urban search rescue; fire suppression; rope rescue; air to ground and sea search and rescue; communication; and leadership lecture,” Gozon said.
He already conducted site inspection and coordinated the event with the university president to make sure activities will go on smoothly and orderly.
“Security measures remain a top priority to ensure the safety of all attendees to these events,” Gozon stressed.
He also encouraged all local DRRM council members to participate in all activities as they will learn more on disaster response.
Council members were assigned to specific committees to make sure everyone has his share of help to make the jamboree successful. (NBQ/TBC/PIA 8, Northern Samar)
