North Cebu Town Gets Waterworks Expansion Project

At least five barangays in the municipality of Tudela in the Camotes Islands in northern Cebu will soon have a better water distribution with the implementation of a PHP12.5 million water system expansion project.

Of the total amount, PHP7 million came from the Cebu Provincial Government as a recipient of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Performance Challenge Fund.

Tudela Vice Mayor Greman Solante said another PHP5.5 million for the project was secured through the Bottom up Budgeting process of the Department of Budget.

He said they wanted to apply the amount to the water system again so that it will reach more barangays.

At least five barangays will be covered by the project, namely: Calmante, Northern Poblacion, Southern Poblacion, General, and MacArthur up to its tourist come-on, Bukilat Cave.

Solante said the Cebu Capitol has already spent PHP3 million for the construction of spring box in 2014 at the water source in Barangay MacArthur to avoid spring contamination.

The Tudela municipal government also spent PHP600,000 for the installation of some 2.5 kilometers of pipes from the water source to the provincial road in the lower part of MacArthur. (PNA) FFC/EB/EBP
