No Taxes for Teachers Honoraria
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) promised to withhold tax for the honorarias of public school teachers who will serve as members of the Electoral Board (EB) if they meet certain requirements.
As announced yesterday by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), a sworn declaration is required to avail for the tax exemption.
“Under BIR rules and regulations, no taxes shall be withheld from public school teachers serving as members of the Electoral Board provided they execute, and file with the COMELEC, the prescribed sworn declaration of having an annual income threshold of P250,000,” COMELEC said in a press release.
Disbursing officers will be deputized as administering officers to execute the filing of the sworn declaration.
The Election Reform Act states that EB chairpersons are entitled to a honoraria of P6,000; EB Members will receive P5,000; DepEd Supervising Officers (DESO) will receive P4,000; and DESO support staffs will receive P2,000.
Aside from the honoraria, all are entitled of an additional allowance of P1,000. (ASC)
