No Pinoy Casualties Reported in Nairobi Mall Attack, DFA Says
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday initially said no Filipino has been reported among the casualties in an attack by Islamic militants on a shopping mall in Kenya.
DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said “So far, no Filipino casualties or hostage has been reported in the Westgate mall attack in Nairobi,”
Hernandez also said, in his twitter account, that the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi continues to check with Kenyan authorities for updates, Gma news online reported.
The online news said initial reports indicated at least 39 people had been killed and more than 150 wounded after Islamic militants stormed the upscale mall in the Kenyan capital.
The UK’s ‘The Guardian’ said the attackers arrived in several cars and ordered Muslims out but had them prove their religion by reciting a prayer or answering a question on Islam, Gma news online said.
The report also added hospitals in Nairobi were overwhelmed due to the number of wounded brought in, and quoting officials as saying many Kenyans turned out to donate blood.
