No Measles Outbreak in Cebu, Health Officer Says
The Cebu Provincial Health Office (CPHO) earlier on Tuesday allayed fears of measles outbreak in the province.
This came after three patients were admitted at the state-run Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) due to measles. But CPHO Chief Cynthia Genosolango, in an interview, said there is no cause of alarm as the three patients are from different areas: Talisay City, Danao and the City of Naga.
“There is nothing to be alarmed about as these are only three cases and they are from different places. Nonetheless, we have sent our personnel to different barangays to check on the health conditions of the people there,” said Genosolango.
She said there may be people suffering from the same illness but have not gone to the hospitals for treatment, hence they want to find out by going to the barangays.
Genosolango also advised the public to visit the nearest rural health units for the free immunization.
The CPHO head said they have also asked the help of the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit-7 (RESU) to survey the areas in Cebu where there are reports of the disease.
Meanwhile, RESU-7 has also been monitoring Bohol after more than 40 people were said to be affected by measles.
