No Lockdown in Cebu City for Holy Week
The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) guaranteed that there will be no lockdown in Cebu City during the holy week despite rising coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the area.
However, stricter rules for the holy week will be implemented all throughout the city to prevent unnecessary conflicts.
IATF-EID Deputy Chief Melquiades Feliciano said that further transmission must be prevented to avoid the mutation of the virus. Thus, residents of Cebu City are highly advised to avoid any public activities during the lenten season.
Meanwhile, after 67 samples from Central Visayas (Region 7) were found to be mutations of potential clinical significance, around 100 sample specimens were already sent to the Philippine Genome Center for COVID-19 variant sequencing.
Felicia added that lockdowns are out of the picture since we have improved critical care systems for COVID-19 patients. (MLC)
