Recognizing the role of different stakeholders in the promotion of good nutrition, the National Nutrition Council Region VII gathers representatives from both public and private institutions in preparation for the 2019 Nutrition Month (NM) celebration.

The 2019 NM campaign revolves around the theme “Kumain ng wasto at maging aktibo… push natin to!”

The gathering dubbed the “Nutrition Month Sales Conference” is slated on 30 May 2019 at Sarrosa International Hotel, Cebu City. where all partners, stakeholders and sponsors can exchange ideas for this years observance. The conference serves as one of the preparatory activities for the 45th NM celebration. It gives technical inputs to participants in relation to the theme, updates partners of the region’s nutrition situation and lays out options for stakeholder participation both during the July nutrition month and afterwards.

The 45th NM celebration call on the general populace to practice healthy diet, engage in regular physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviors in response to the increasing overnutrition trend in the country including the spike of non-communicable diseases over the past years.

The campaign also serves as an avenue to help individuals make informed food choices and be guided on how to integrate physical activity in his/her daily life.

Data in Central Visayas revealed that three out of ten adults are either overweight or obese. Almost half of the adult population are physically inactive. Nine out of ten failed to meet the recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables. (DOST-FNRI, 2015).

With these data, the conference seeks to mobilize stakeholders to provide an enabling environment for healthy diet and physical activity with the hope to improve the nutrition well-being of the people in Central Visayas. It also hopes to jump-start or reinforce nutrition advocacies and policies to encourage more people to live a healthy lifestyle. (NNC 7)
