NNC 7 Pushes HCFP to Help ECCD F1K Program
The National Nutrition Council Region 7 (NNC 7) pushes Home and Community Food Production (HCFP) to help the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCD F1K) program. The HCFP helps participants produce food and promote food security in different participating municipalities in the Province of Cebu.
According to Tuburan MNAO Dr. Carmina Jemma C. Faunillan “Pushing for HCFP empowers communities to produce their own food and ensure food security in the household.”
Distribution of garden tools and materials have started in Dalaguete, Santa Fe, and Tuburan. The creation of home and community gardens commenced. The HCFC component was also included in the ongoing nutrition education classes in the barangays.
“We hope to see a sustainable and abundant produce in the gardens we established. We also look forward that these gardens will really help our beneficiaries to improve food security in their households.” Dr. Faunillan further reiterated.
Among the activities conducted in the ECCD F1K target areas include distribution of gardening tools and materials, lectures on basic gardening techniques, and establishment of home and community gardens.
About 1,784 families from the 3 pilot areas are part of the ECCD F1K program initiated by NNC 7.
Said program works with the aim to reduce mortality and morbidity rates among children 0-23 months old; reduce the prevalence of stunting and wasting among children 0-23 months old; and increase the percentage of children 0-23 months old meeting developmental milestones. (Aljun Cainghog/NNC7)
