Nintendo has officially revealed the full specifications and release date for its highly anticipated Switch 2 console. Set to launch on June 5, the new device improves upon its predecessor in nearly every aspect, featuring a larger design, upgraded display, and enhanced performance.

The Switch 2 measures 271.8mm wide and 114.3mm tall while maintaining a slim 13.9mm thickness. Weighing 399g with controllers attached, it also introduces a sturdier kickstand for better support. A notable change is the addition of two USB-C ports, one on the top and another on the bottom, expanding its connectivity options.

Nintendo has redesigned the Joy-Con controllers, now called Joy-Con 2. These controllers, primarily black with red and blue accents, use strong magnets instead of the previous rail system for attachment. They feature larger SL/SR buttons for comfort and improved analog sticks. A major innovation is their ability to function as a mouse in supported games, allowing players to control the action in new ways.

The Switch 2 boasts a 7.9-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1920×1080, now supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and VRR. However, it remains an LCD panel rather than an OLED, though HDR10 support has been added. The new dock enables 4K 60Hz output, as well as 1080p and 1440p at 120Hz. Active cooling in the dock helps maintain performance during extended gaming sessions.

Moreover, audio quality has also been improved, with enhanced built-in speakers and 3D audio support for a more immersive experience. The dock offers 5.1 PCM audio output for home theater setups.

Internally, the console includes 256GB of faster storage, expandable via microSD Express cards up to 2TB. It supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, and Ethernet through the dock. The battery capacity is 5220mAh, though official battery life estimates have not been provided. The console runs on a new Nvidia chipset, though details on its exact specifications remain undisclosed.

A new GameChat feature has been introduced, allowing players to communicate in real time using a dedicated C button and the console’s built-in microphone. Players can also share gameplay footage and even enable video chat with the separately sold Nintendo Switch 2 Camera. GameChat will be free until March 31, 2026, after which a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required.

The Switch 2 will support both exclusive new titles and most games from the original Switch library. Select older titles will receive a “Switch 2 Edition” upgrade, offering enhanced graphics, frame rates, and additional gameplay features for an extra fee. The console will continue working with Nintendo Switch Online, with an upgraded Expansion Pack that adds GameCube emulation exclusively for Switch 2 users. A new wireless Nintendo GameCube Controller with a GameChat button will also be available, alongside a Pro Controller featuring additional back buttons and a headphone jack.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be available in two versions: a standard edition priced at USD450 (approximately PHP26,700) and a Mario Kart World bundle for USD500 (around PHP28,560). (GFB)
