Night Market to Resume Operations on November 15
(Cebu City PIO) – In the effort to revitalize its downtown area, the Cebu City Government initiated the Night Market which will resume their operations on November 15, 2014 at the oldest street in the country – the Colon Street.
The Night Market was created in 2007 right after the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) summit held in the city.
The activity which is a program of Mayor Michael L Rama aims to bring back the old glory of the oldest street in the country which was the center of trade, commerce and industry decades ago.
It serves like a Divisoria in Manila, which cater the needs of different people from different walks of life to enjoy buying low priced items from kitchen utensils, household needs, garments, school supplies, finger and street foods, among several others.
The Night Market vendors are allowed to display and sell various items and products from 6 o’clock in the evening until 2 o’clock dawn.
The month-long activity is conducted four times yearly to wit, i.) Every month of January as part of the Sinulog celebration; ii.) Every month of June as part of the Cebu Business Month celebration and opening of classes; iii.) Every month of August in time of Ramadan celebration; and iv.) Every middle of November until December for the Christmas celebration.
Moreover, Mayor Rama wants to ensure the safety and security of everyone who will partake in the event, thus Police visibility is also seemingly observable in coordination with the Cebu City’s Unified Security Group to patrol along the area and will be on prowl on bad elements. (Cebu City PIO)
