NHA Turns Over P10 Million for Itogon
The National Housing Authority (NHA) turned over on Saturday P10 million financial assistance to the Itogon municipal government for construction materials and immediate needs of those affected by typhoon “Ompong.”
NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr., personally handed the cheque to Mayor Victorio Palangdan together with some barangay officials.
This is an instant assistance for the people of Itogon who were victims of typhoon Ompong. “Pwede syang magamit in any construction materials, aggregates, cement and all other materials that are available to construction provided we rehabilitate housing hindi na doon sa danger zone,” Escalada said.
NHA will continue to help in a long tern plan for the resettlement of affected families in a secure and safer environment, he added.
Hundreds of families were affected by the landslides in Itogon during the height of typhoon Ompong last September 15. As of October 2, Itogon has recorded 89 dead and eight still missing mostly in barangays Ucab.
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau has identified large portion of Itogon as danger zone with some areas considered as unlivable.
Palangdan expressed his outmost gratitude in behalf on his town mates. ‘I would like to thank the NHA and all national government for the outpouring, non- stop assistance that they are giving to us,’ he said. (JDP/JBZ- PIA CAR)
