The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Thursday donated 3 classroom- school building for the more than 200 students of Jose Malazarte Elem. School in Barangay Managase, Tabogon town, North Cebu.

Mercy Rondina, the principal of the said school described the donation as a “gift from heaven” saying they received more than just classrooms but a school building.

“These new classrooms are in addition to the existing four school rooms and will benefit the pupils of Grades one to six” Rondina said.

The NGCP said they considered this project as part of their corporate social responsibility to satisfy the barangay residents’ dream
to have additional classrooms. The new classrooms will benefit not only to the 210 pupils and 7 teachers of Jose Malazarte Elementary School but also to the incoming students.

Rondina added the electrical wiring of the building were freely installed by Cebu Electric Cooperative 2 (CEBECO).

The school principal also stressed that they are the first in the town to have a concrete school building.

Meanwhile NGCP officials led by Public Affairs head Nelson Cabangan turned over the said school building to the school, barangay, and municipal officials recently at the school grounds in a simple ceremony.

Cabangahan said that providing school buildings to barangays covered by the transmission lines of the power company is their
priority. He also pointed out that they wanted to help barangays where their facilities are located.

“We do this not because we want recognition but we want to be of help first in the barangays where our facilities are present. We hope that we leave behind a legacy that you will take care.” Cabangan said.

Tabogon Mayor Zigfred Duterte was thankful to both officials of NGCP and CEBECO for being sensitive to the needs of their municipality.

The turn -over ceremony was also attended by Armida Caguitla, Board President of CEBECO II and Hermogena Miranda representatve from the office of Dr. Arden Monisit, Cebu School Division Supt. of the Department of Education.

Managase is one of the 6,000 barangays all over the country where NGCP’s facilities and transmission are located. The NGCP line crossing Managase comes from Leyte, then to Bohol province. It is located more than two kilometers from the main highway.

Tabogon town was one of the municipalities in northern Cebu that was badly affected by super typhoon Yolanda last November 8, 2013.
