National Food Authority (NFA)-Samar will receive 80,000 bags of rice after imported rice from Thailand arrived at the NFA Regional Office, Tacloban City.

NFA Provincial Operations Officer, Antonio S. Flor Jr. bared that as of the moment, 10,000 bags have already arrived in Catbalogan City and around 2,000 bags are to be received every day until all 80,000 bags are fully distributed.

“With the limited number of bags that we have right now and in order to cater to more clients, accredited resellers are allowed to buy just 5 bags each,” Flor said.

Of the 80,000 bags, 60,000 are allocated for Catbalogan and the remaining 20,000 bags are for Calbayog City. Catbalogan City is prioritized for the distribution of these bags as it is near Tacloban.

NFA rice will be sold at public markets and accredited resellers at P32.00 per kilo.

Further, NFA will be having a Tagpuan Day Rice Reserve Program in depressed areas where rice will be sold at P27.00. With the said program, NFA and its accredited resellers will visit “Tabuan” or “Market Day” of selected barangays in different municipalities, to serve the poorest of the poor.

Meanwhile, NFA Samar Senior Enforcement and Investigation Officer, Marilyn Cui shared that there is an existing NFA Kontra Abuso program to prevent abuse and violations such as mixing of NFA rice with other commercial rice, hoarding, overpricing and any other form of diversion, wherein rice intended for designated areas are sold in different areas.
