NFA Rice Retailers Join National Grains Industry Week
The retailers of National Food Authority (NFA) rice retailers on Monday celebrate its annual National Grains Industry Week with a simultaneous selling of cheap government rice to Cebu’s depressed areas.
Grain Retailers Confederation of the Philippines-Cebu (Grecon) president Semy Cabuenas said that on Sept. 23 and 24, at least 40 NFA rolling stores will sell government rice in depressed areas in Carcar City to Danao City, in Toledo City areas as well as in Mactan.
On the same day, a rolling store which will station in Poblacion Park, Talisay City, Cebu will also serve the government rice from 10 am onwards.
Cabuenas said since the people of Talisay will get two days of NFA rice for this week, they will not be back on Sept. 28 to allow them to also sell in other areas. He added that their rolling store will be back in Poblacion
Park on Oct. 5, Sunday.
“Ako gyud gihangyo ang NFA nga mo-flood og NFA rice kay daghan nanginahanglan,” said Cabuenas.
NFA rice is sold at P27 and P32 per kilo depending on the quality. But Cabuenas assured the public that despite being cheap, this government rice is at par with commercial rice that can be had for P41 per kilo.
“Kung naay baho nga NFA rice, dugay nana gi-bidding nya karon lang gibaligya sa mga badlungon nga mga retailers,” said Cabuenas.
Cabuenas, who is a rice retailer himself, said in that Talisay City, hundreds of residents line up to purchase the NFA rice from Cabuenas’ rolling store. He said upon seeing the long queues, he personally included to the National Grains industry Week celebration this week the simultaneous selling of NFA rice in the different area of Cebu.
He said if the rolling stores could reach the mountain areas, they would do it to serve the poor people there.
“Daghan pud mga tawo gikan sa bukid mangnaug para lang mopalot og NFA. Luoy kaayo, kuyaw tulison. Maningkamot gyud mi nga makaabot diha saga bukid-bukid ang bugas sa gobyerno,” he said.
Cabuenas also said he also hopes that his fellow retailers would reach out to these individuals by bringing their respective rolling stores in these places as he said this is a part of their social corporate responsibility.
Meanwhile, Grecon members and NFA people held a Holy Mass on Monday celebrating the 42nd National Grains Industry Week, followed by a simultaneous feeding program to all laborers at the retailers’ warehouses.
