NFA-7 Assures Enough Rice Supply
Following the high demand of rice brought about by calamities that struck the nation the past months, the National Food Authority 7 (NFA) has assured sufficient rice supply in Central Visayas.
In a statement, NFA-7 Regional Director Efren Sabong said there is enough rice supply in their warehouses that can meet the region’s food requirement even during the holidays. Sabong’s statement came after reports stated that the 7.2-magnitude quake and the super typhoon, which hit the Visayas in October and November, respectively, had dwindled the region’s rice supply especially that relief goods, which consist mostly of rice, sent to the affected areas were from Central Visayas.
But Sabong said even before those calamities struck the country, they had already stocked up in preparation for the increase of demand, which usually comes at yearend. Also, he said the NFA-7 is expecting a new batch of rice from Vietnam to come within this month. He said an initial shipment of 19, 400 metric tons if Vietnam rice is expected to arrive in Cebu soon.
Sabong said the new shipment once it arrives in Cebu will be distributed to different rice retailers in Central Visayas to augment their stockes this Holiday season. Sabong added that NFA rice is still at P27.00 per kilo.
