New Typhoon May Enter PHL Wednesday — PAGASA
(PNA) — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday it continues to monitor the typhoon “Nangka” (international name) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) which has high chance of entering the country.
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Shaira Nonot said typhoon Nangka is expected to enter the PAR on Wednesday if it continues to move northwest, if it moves northward it will not enter PAR.
Nonot added once the typhoon enters it will go through the tip of the PAR line and the scenario. Just like typhoon Falcon it will enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring rains in most parts of the country.
She said once the typhoon enters PAR it will be named “Goring”, the seventh tropical cyclone to affect the country this year and third for this month of July.
Meanwhile, Nonot said expect rains in most parts of Luzon on Monday due to southwest monsoon affecting Luzon.
For Monday forecast, PAGASA said monsoon rains which may trigger flash floods and landslides will be experienced over Ilocos region.
Occasional rains are expected over the regions of Cordillera and Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
It added moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the entire archipelago with moderate to rough seas.
The state weather bureau also issued gale warning strong to gale-force winds associated with the southwest monsoon may affect the seaboards of Luzon will be rough to very rough.
“Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it said. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
