New Roadmap Sees PH as Leader in AI
The Philippine government makes moves for artificial intelligence (AI) supremacy as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched the national AI roadmap, which effectively made the country one of the first 50 countries in the world that have adopted to the advent of technology though a national strategy and policy on AI.
The country’s move for AI adoption will eventually help in increasing economic growth, as DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said that the adoption will give the Philippines a gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 12 percent by 2030.
A 12 percent translates to USD92 billion in GDP growth.
Furthermore, the national policy on AI also aims for the country to boost development in the industrial, serve as a catalyst for better business opportunities, and a more streamlined experience for Filipino employees. The country’s investment in AI development is also seen to provide better-paying jobs.
Lopez further added that the government hopes to see the Philippines as a center of excellence for AI in the region.
The roadmap for AI will start with the establishment of the National Center for AI Research (NCAIR), an organization that will be primarily led by the private sector. The center will then be a shared hub for AI development and research in the country.
The AI development in the Philippines also serves to be a hub for providing data processing, data analytics, and AI services, and will make use of the country’s already-established business processing management and operations industry. (GFB)
