New Position Titles for School Teachers Created
President Rodrigo Duterte signed a new Executive Order (EO) that will allow public school teachers to further their careers through the creation of new position titles with their corresponding salary grades.
Duterte signed EO 174 on Wednesday, which establishes the expanded career progression system for public school teachers.
The new EO aims to “define the career lines of teachers within the public school system.”
“The expanded career progression system for public school teachers is hereby established to promote professional development and career advancements among public school teachers, and define the career lines of teachers within the public school system,” according to the EO.
Moreover, the EO added that the need to revise and update the career progression system for public school teachers arose and that there was a need to ensure the motivation of the teachers in providing quality education.
“There is a need to revise and update the system of career progression for public school teachers that is anchored on the achievement of qualifications and standards for teachers and school administrators, in order to provide more opportunities for professional growth and career advancement, and ensure that teachers are consistently motivated in providing quality education to learners,” the EO further read.
The Department of Budget and Management will now create additional position titles, namely Teacher 4, 5, 6, 7, along with Master Teacher 5.
Moreover, Teachers 1 to 7 will be the base of the revised career progression system.
Master Teachers and School Principals may also be considered for promotion to the next higher positions in the service.
The classroom teaching career line according to the EO is Master Teacher 1, Master Teacher 2, Master Teacher 3, Master Teacher 4, and Master Teacher 5.
Moreover, the career line for the school administration career line is School Principal 1, School Principal 2, School Principal 3, and School Principal 4.
According to the EO, a teacher who will pursue a promotion to Master Teacher 2 shall continue his progression in the Classroom Teaching Career Line.
Moreover, a teacher with the intention to pursue a career as School Principal 1 shall continue his progression in the School Administration Career Line.
Multiple government agencies such as the Civil Service Commission, Department of Education, and Professional Regulation Commission will streamline qualification standards for the teaching positions in the public school system. (GFB)
