NEVER TOO YOUNG TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Adhering to its discipline, students from Cebu International School (CIS) reacted over a news last week about the 350 dead sea turtles believed to be victims of poaching, an environmental crime that involves illegal means of catching wildlife.
Wanting to take action against the sad news, the students, mostly kindergarten, wrote letters to authorities commending the arrest of the poachers. They also send letters to fishermen asking to stop the act of hurting these endangered sea creatures. They also launched email campaigns to families and friends that calls for sea turtle protection.
In an attempt to heighten awareness on the issue, they mounted hand-made posters about what they think and feel regarding the sea turtles which earned them commendation for their initiative to help conservation efforts.
Poaching has brought detrimental effects on biodiversity both within and outside the protected areas as it results in the decline of wildlife populations, depleted local species and disturbs the functionality of ecosystems.
