Nearly Two Thousand Overseasjob Seekers Flock The Capitol
Over a 1,917 overseas job applicants registered and were interviewed by over 28 licensed overseas agencies during the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) overseas job fair at the Capitol last Sunday.
The PESO held the first of three overseas job fairs which happens yearly including three local job fairs over the span of the coming months.
The number one sector of the 9,590 vacancies available was the construction sector followed by the hospitality sector.
Compared to the 17,233 vacancies from the last overseas job fair in October 2016, the PESO has opened more diversity by inviting more agencies from other countries to join this year.
Vietnam, Cambodia, Maldives, China, Australia, and Singapore are the countries that have recently joined this year’s overseas job fair.
The PESO also tapped and dedicated an area for the national government agencies such as the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Social Security System (SSS) and others to help assist the applicants’ employment requirements.
The PESO also the introduced the new Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Assist-Well Processing Center which is composed of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
They would entertain OFW’s who have problems with their previous overseas employment such as their welfare or unclaimed benefits.
Dr. Mathea Baguia, consultant for the Capitol’s PESO, is extending their invitation to job-seekers from all over Cebu to join in the next local job fair this coming May 1, 2017.
“Our job fair is open to everybody, open to the neighboring provinces also.” She said. (Francis Jonathan Torralba)
