NBI Chief Resigns Amid Probe on Napoles ‘Arrest Tip’
After PNoy orders the investigation of two officials of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) who allegedly tipped off ‘pork barrel’ scam suspect Janet Lim-Napoles about her likely arrest, NBI director Nonnatus Rojas on Monday irrevocably resigned from his post, Gma news online said.
Last Sunday, PNoy told Philippine Daily Inquirer that there were ‘less trustworthy officials’ in the agency. The NBI chief’s resignation came in at the start of the investigation being conducted on the bureau in connection with the alleged tip received by controversial trader Janet Lim-Napoles regarding her impending arrest over a serious illegal detention case, Gma news online said.
The two NBI officials who allegedly tipped Napoles off about her arrest are now under investigation following orders from President Aquino. A separate report on “Balitanghali” however quoted Justice Secretary Leila de Lima as saying that she will ask President Aquino not to accept Rojas’s resignation, the online news said.
Rojas took his oath as the 20th director of the NBI on July 25, 2012. A lawyer by profession, he was previously NBI officer-in-charge and chairman of the Regional Prosecutors Council, Gma news online reported.
