Navy Says Sinulog 2015 Sea Route Fully Secured
Land and sea routes for the Sinulog 2015 are 100 percent safe for all visitors and revelers particularly its participating contingents.
The assurance was made on Tuesday by LTJG Jose Mary J. Martinez, Philippine Navy (PN) Asst. CMG Officer, Naval Force Central during the Agio Forum at the PIA office.
Marinez said that while the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other security forces are entrusted to secure the land areas for the whole Sinulog activites, the Philippine Navy (PN) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will secure the sea areas within the Cities of Cebu and Lapulapu.
Martinez said the PN will coordinate with the PCG as far as securing the Cebu sea area of responsibility is concerned.
The PN officer also said they will deploy 8 Navy vessels to secure the fluvial procession slated on Saturday.
He added they will also provide a vessel for all media members who will be assigned to cover the fluvial activities.
Martinez added that their tasks are not only to secure all fluvial participants in case big sea waves will surmount during the fluvial activities, but above all their mandate is to secure everybody from any terrorist threats.
“However so far we have not received any threats that would distract the Sinulog activites,” Martinez said.
Like the Sinulog last year, all security groups such as the PNP, PN and PCG successfully maintained peace and order, on land and even in sea routes where fluvial procession was held.
Martinez also said that they will only allow civilian passengers to ride their vessels especially if seas are naturally calm.
“But if seas are rough I think we have to put a limit of accommodating civilians, to maintain the safety of everybody,” he said.
