Naga Mayor to Commend Police for Last Week’s Hostage Drama
For the successful negotiation on last Saturday’s hostage standoff which led to the surrender of the suspect, the City of Naga is set to give commendation to the city police.
“Nagplano mi maghatag og commendation sa police sa success sa pag negotiation, Mayor Valdemar Chiong.
The city just activated its 20-man special weapons and tactics team, which was at the forefront in the hostage crisis last Saturday.
Chiong said it might not what he had prepared them to do, but he was just glad they were already there when the incident happened.
“Dili ta gusto mura’g nagbunga among preparasyon but at least positive ang resulta,” he said.
Chiong was there during the crisis, as he said it was to show “my support sa any family nga nabutang sa ingun ana nga sitwasyon.”
He said when he came to the scene, he specifically instructed the police to be patient and wait for the hostage-taker’s emotions to die down.
For 10 hours, Veroni Bacon, 48, held his wife and two children inside their house in Sitio Sindulan, Barangay Tinaan. Bacon also threatened to shoot them.
Bacon is an employee of Abejo Builders, which had a joint venture of the city in one of its projects. His wife Lendela is a City Hall worker.
The suspect, who was brought at the Naga City Police Station, will face criminal charges of as illegal detention, illegal possession of firearms, physical injury, child abuse, and violence against women and children.
