Naga Industrial Park to Generate More Jobs in the South
A 36-hectare industrial park is seen to generate more jobs in the South of Cebu as it opened in barangay Cantao-an of the City of Naga.
The Naga Valley (NAVA) industrial park is the first industrial zone development of the Primary Properties Corporation, which is expected to employ at least 20,000 to 30,000 people in the manufacturing sector.
“This park is a magnet to able to bring in more employment. Everyday some residents here go to Mactan to work. Now, we bring the jobs to their place and drive more economic activity in the community,” said PPC president William Liu Jr.
The PEZA-accredited industrial park is positioned as light industrial park that can accommodate industries such as semiconductors, electronics and industrial gases.
According to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) director-general Lilia P. De Lima that they are strongly pushing for manufacturing and agri-industrial in the country, which they foresee as an aid to achieve the inclusive growth of the Philippine economy.
NAVA is also viewed as a solution to lessen poverty as companies in the industrial zone will open doors for people who have not obtained any college degree since they will hire those who are still at the high school level.
“It’s time that we also grow manufacturing to help more Filipinos rise up from poverty,” De Lima added.
Kyocera Mita Corporation, a Japanese company manufacturing color printers and digital copiers, is already operating in the location employing 1000 people.
PPC is still looking for land areas to develop for another industrial zone to continue generating more jobs and creating community to an industrial city.
PPC is a subsidiary of Primary Group of Builders, which has built Mactan Economic Zone 1 and 2, Cebu IT Park, Cebu Light Industrial Park and Cebu Business Park. There are a total of 311 economic zones in the Philippines.
