Naga City Cash Donations Reach Over P10-M
Total cash donations received by the City of Naga for the victims of the September 20 landslide is now over P10 million.
In Kapihan sa PIA-Cebu, Ananisa Aviso of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 7 reported that the cash donations received for the Naga City victims already reached more than P10 million as of October 2.
She said the money was received and accounted by the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).
The amount will be spent for the welfare of the landslide victims.
“Nothing should be left with the local government or with the DSWD,” Aviso said.
For the donations in kind, DSWD and Naga City quantified it to be over P3.4 million.
However, Aviso said this may be more since they had just started quantifying the donations since September 20.
Most of the donations received are used clothing which, according to Aviso, should already be avoided.
She said what Naga City needs now are storage boxes.
Grace Yana, also of DSWD-7, said their agency is tasked to initially set up the operations and management of the different evacuation camps.
Currently there are 11 camps, including one in the next town of San Fernando.
“But eventually, after days of operations and mentoring at the same time, the City of Naga will already be the one managing all donations and including the operations of the camps,” Yana said.
She said they are seeing a long stayin in the evacuation camps since it will still take time for the relocation sites to be ready.
On the other hand, the Department of Health (DOH-7) reported that they are also there to stay for a longer period in Naga City assisting the local health personnel.
Dr. Shelbay Blanco of DOH-7 said there are standby health facilities in every evacuation camp and available medicines for common illnesses.
At the same time, they continue to conduct water hygiene and proper hand washing to prevent contamination of bacteria.
The landslide that hit Naga City last September 20 had displaced over 7,000 individuals and resulted to at least 70 people dead.
It covered an area of 80 hectares, engulfing 25 residential houses, electrical facilities of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and some bunks and structures of Apo Land and Quarry Corporation (ALQC), the mining arm of Apo Cement of Mexico Corporation (APOCEMEX). (fcc/PIA7-Cebu)
