Mynimo Launches Free Internet Job Search Feature
Mynimo.com, one of the leading job websites in the country, grew their mobile users by 40% in 2016. The company expects even higher growth this year with the launch of their latest feature.
“The high cost of internet access has been hindering a lot of job seekers from getting employment information online. Our new feature will help solve this problem,” said Wesley
Chiongbian, President and CEO of Mynimo.com. Although the cost of smartphones has gotten cheaper, the cost of internet access has remained high in the Philippines. The company reports that this has limited internet penetration in the country to less than half of the population.
With this in mind, Mynimo.com decided to participate in the Free Basics platform, a Facebook project, in partnership with several telcos in developing countries, to reach more people through free mobile internet access.
By being part of the platform, Mynimo.com makes its service accessible for free to everyone in the Philippines. Anyone with a phone and SIM card can now search for jobs online at no cost, removing the hurdle for people without the budget for mobile data.
Chiongbian believes that one of the reasons for unemployment in the Philippines is the lack of information about available jobs.
“This (lack of information) could easily be addressed by going online,” Chiongbian said.
The company has built a fully functional, yet lightweight, version of its popular website especially for Free Basics. This gives people the benefit of simple online job search, even with slow internet connections. Job seekers can now find and apply to jobs for free anytime and anywhere
through their mobile device by simply adding Mynimo.com to their list of free services on Free Basics.
The increasing number of job applicants brought about by the company’s participation in Free Basics will also benefit employers as they are expected to receive more applications to their job vacancies.
“Being part of this platform will greatly help jobseekers and employers connect with each other as easily as possible,” Chiongbian added.
