Myanmar to Export Antivenom to Asian Countries
Yangon (PNA/Xinhua) — Myanmar is planning to export antivenom to neighboring Asian countries in this year, official media reported Monday.
U Ko Ko Aung, General Manager of the government-owned Myanmar Pharmaceutical Factory, said that the exporting products are awaiting to be checked by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The factory has increased the antivenom production with the aim of bringing down the country’s high rate of snakebite fatalities. About 10,000 snakebite incidences occurred every year across the country, especially in rural areas.
The factory manufactured about 80,000 doses of liquid and freeze-dried venom for cobras and vipers in the last fiscal year 2015-2016. (PNA/Xinhua) BNB/EBP
