‘MY MOTHER WAS A TEACHER’
Vice President Jejomar Binay, in a statement issued in observance of the celebration of World Teacher’s Day on Sunday, shared the plight of the country’s educators saying ‘Teachers must also receive the full moral and physical support due their noble vocation’. The Vice President also said that education is the key to progress and teachers have always been in the forefront of cultivating knowledge.
“While the K-12 program is a significant step in strengthening our educational system, it is not enough,” Binay said. The vice president also shared that he grew up witnessing the sacrifices of his mother, who was also a teacher, and that he sees how hard it is for educators to earn a decent living.
“It is imperative that as we carry out measures to improve the state of education in our country, we must also commit to uplift our teachers’ welfare,” Binay said in a statement.
House Bill No. 245 is pending in congress and if passed into law, will increase the minimum monthly salary of teachers and non-teaching personnel in public elementary and secondary schools.
The Vice President said he firmly supports bills like this and it is only fitting to show appreciation to all those who have committed their lives to the teaching profession.
