Musk Ends Remote Work of Twitter Employees
New Twitter Inc. owner Elon Musk just ended the remote work Twitter employees have been enjoying in his first email to his workers.
Musk added in his email that the outlook for the economy is in a bad position, as he said in his email “no way to sugarcoat the message,” adding “frankly, the economic picture ahead is dire.”
The new Twitter owner also said that Twitter may not be able to survive “a challenging economic climate” as the advertising-reliant social media platform braces for a new subscription-based business model called Twitter Blue Verified for USD8 per month to complement its advertising revenue stream.
Musk also told his workers that he wants to see Twitter Blue Verified subscriptions to account for 50 percent of Twitter’s revenue.
However, Twitter will still be apparently “significantly reliant on advertising,” Musk added in his email.
Musk then told his workers, “the road ahead is arduous and will require intense work to succeed,” then followed it with his directive on ending remote work.
“We are also changing Twitter policy such that remote work is no longer allowed, unless you have a specific exception,” Musk said.
He added that all exceptions to his new policy will be subject to his approval.
As such, all Twitter employees will now be required to be in a Twitter office “for a minimum of 40 hours per week.”
Twitter has been implementing a permanent work-from-home arrangement for its employees since the pandemic began–an arrangement that the world’s richest person and Twitter owner is not fond of.
Earlier this month, Bloomberg also reported that Musk also ended “days of rest” from Twitter staff calendars. The “days of rest” of Twitter was a monthly, company-wide day off which was implemented during the pandemic. (GFB)
