MRT-3 Resumes Regular Ops Monday Morning After Glitch
MANILA, July 25 (PNA) — Regular operations have resumed at the Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) on Monday morning after it encountered a glitch Sunday night due to its catenary cable getting struck by lightning.
On her Twitter account, Department of Transportation (DOTr) spokesperson Cherie Mercado said that the MRT-3 will operate at its usual time at 4:30 a.m.
Repairs and security checks at the MRT-3 were finished at around 11 p.m. however, management waited for a security certification to allow the resumption of its regular operation.
To recall, a southbound train stopped in between Santolan and Ortigas station Sunday night after the cable struck by lightning. The cable supplies the train’s electricity.
Because of the glitch, the MRT-3 operated on a provisional service from Shaw to Taft station only.
After 10 minutes of waiting inside the train, passengers were walked back to Santolan station escorted by MRT-3 staff.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for its part ordered operators to assure that there will be more buses in EDSA to accommodate passengers.
A maintenance team was quickly assigned on site to replace cables. (PNA) JMC/ANP
