Moro Group Lauds MILF Decommissioning Efforts
(PNA) — The decision of the Moro Islamic Liberation (MILF) to start the decommissioning of their weapons and combatants, even with the Basic Bangsamoro Law still under process, is another milestone in the ongoing peace process in Mindanao.
This was disclosed by Young Moro Professional Network (YMPN) head Yamira Moner in a message to the PNA.
“(The decommissioning) is another milestone in the ongoing Mindanao peace process,” she said.
“The ceremonial laying down of arms by the MILF today is a historic moment as they proved their commitment and sincerity to peaceful(ly) resolve (the) Bangsamoro question. Not to mention that the BBL is now in limbo, still normalization has to push through,” Moner stressed.
The YMPN head added that this gesture shows the proactive mechanism where the MILF opted to look beyond the BBL and focus towards “transformation of conflict and normalizing (the) situation in Mindanao.”
However, for this measure to succeed, Moner said that the government has to ensure that security must be taken care of.
In Tuesday’s ceremony, 55 high-powered and 20-crew served weapons were decommissioned along with 145 MILF combatants in a ceremony held at the Old Provincial Capitol in Sultan Kudarat Tuesday. (PNA) LAM/PFN/EDS
