Moderna Vaccines Delayed Due to Logistics Issues
150,000 doses Moderna vaccines that are supposed to arrive on the 21st after being procured by the private sector will now arrive in the country on June 25 instead as the delivery of the said vaccines face logistical issues.
However, National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said that this is nothing but a minor setback in the country’s vaccination program.
Galvez added that the delays are due to flight schedules. He then added that delays are normal and unavoidable.
Meanwhile, he also said that cold-storage facilities for the Moderna vaccines are ready for next week’s arrival. Moderna vaccines require a consistent temperature that is between 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.
More vaccines to arrive
The Philippines is set to receive around 4.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from different sources for the rest of June as 2,028,000 doses of AstraZeneca from the COVAX Facility, 2.5 million doses of the CoronaVac vaccine from Sinovac, and 150,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine are set to arrive in the country.
Galvez also said that vaccine donations from other countries may arrive this month.
Countries that committed to donating COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines include Australia, China, Japan, and the United States. (GFB)
