Mitsubishi Used Noncompliant Fuel Economy Testing Method For Past 25 Yrs
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. admitted Tuesday it has collected data to calculate fuel economy using a method that does not comply with Japanese standards since 1991, much longer than initially thought.
The automaker also submitted data obtained from calculations rather than performing actual tests to make some mini-vehicles look more fuel efficient than they actually are.
“It’s a grave issue that could threaten our company’s survival,” Mitsubishi Motors President Tetsuro Aikawa told a press conference. (PNA/Kyodo) FFC/SSC
